The National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa is prosecuting only one case relating to a xenophobic attack incident in the Northern Cape province. This case relates to an incident of intimidation that took place at Roodepan in May this year.
The State versus Du Bryn and another
The accused will appear again at the Kimberley Magistrate Court on 15 July and the case will be transferred to the regional court for trial. The case was previously postponed for further police investigation.
As part of fast tracking and speedily finalising xenophobic attack related cases, the NPA's Chief Prosecutor in the Kimberley cluster, Mr M R Ligaraba has been tasked to co-ordinate all xenophobic attack related cases.
Support services and prosecution service have been prioritised to deal specifically with such cases as part of the agreed process between NPA, SAPS and the Department of Justice and Constitution Development. In some provinces, special courts have been set-up to deal with such cases.
