Statement by the North West Provincial Government on the withdrawal of the Joint Tenants Committee (JTC) from the North West Provincial Government (NWPG) task team negotiating process
4 July 2008
The North West Provincial Government views the withdrawal of the Joint Tenants Committee (JTC) from the negotiations as a result of actions of flat-owners who have opted not to participate in the negotiation process but exercise their constitutional right to safeguard their interests, is both premature and unfortunate.
Encouraging progress regarding arrear rental write-offs, reconnection of electricity, non-eviction of indigent tenants, payment of occupational rent and payment of interim flat rate for water and electricity had been achieved within the negotiations for a win-win situation to be realised.
The Provincial Government is confident that it is in the interest of all parties that the negotiation process resumes regularising the relationship between the flat-owners and the tenants in order to avert further evictions that might ensue should the representatives of the tenants opt to remain outside the negotiation process.
