Health Minister to announce new tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis breakthrough

Health Minister Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang will address a press conference on 1 July 2008, at Durban International Convention Centre to announce new measures to diagnose TB in the country.
The new tool, decided upon after extensive research between the Department of Health, Medical Research Council (MRC) and World Health Organisation (WHO) amongst others will enable the country's laboratories to diagnose TB including Multi Drug Resistant (MDR)-TB within seven days as opposed to the current six to eight weeks.
At the press conference, Minister Tshabalala-Msimang, joined by the MRC and WHO senior representatives amongst others will provide background to this new intervention and further outline roll-out plans to the various laboratories.
Members of the media are invited to attend the press conference scheduled to take place as follows:

After the press conference, Minister Tshabalala-Msimang will open a National TB Conference at the same venue (Durban ICC) at 16h00 to which members of the media are welcomed.
