Minister Pandor to participate in the International Forum on African Perspectives in Paris
26 June 2008
Minister Pandor will participate in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD's) International Forum on Africa Perspectives in Paris, tomorrow, 27 June 2008.
Organised by the OECD Centre and the African Development Bank, the International Forum on African Perspectives has grown to become the largest and most important annual event on Africa in France.
Each year, hundreds of journalists, business people, development co-operation professionals, researchers, civil society representatives and students come to hear and engage with a panel of experts discussing the findings of the African Economic Outlook (AEO), a comprehensive report of the economic, social and political development of the continent and assesses its progresses towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
The 2008 Forum includes a full day of talks centred on two panels. The first, Africa: A New Emerging Markets Frontier? will look at the continent's macroeconomic outlook and the investment landscape. The second, Investing in Africa's Youth: The Challenge of Skills Development , will explore the special theme of the 2008 AEO, specifically which skills are needed for African development and what are the best techniques for developing them.
In front of an audience of development decision makers and moderated by a high-profile journalist, panellists will grapple with how Africa can capitalise on five years of steady economic growth. The objective is challenging: to promote a frank, moderated discussion, under the media's watch, between the panels and a large audience from African and OECD countries.
Journalists Mishal Hussein (BBC World News) and Louis Keumayou (Association de la Press Panafricaine) will be the moderators of the event for the morning and afternoon roundtables respectively.
