Future of Commissioner Pravin Gordhan

Various media reports have claimed that the Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (SARS), Mr Pravin Gordhan, will be appointed as the next national Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
In other instances, it was reported that Commissioner Gordhan may be appointed to other government departments or to lead an international organisation.
These reports were largely based on information from unidentified "sources" to the extent that it is not possible to challenge such speculation.
When SARS was asked to comment on these claims the response has been consistent and unambiguous:
* The contract of Commissioner Gordhan expires at the end of November 2009.
* He has not been approached by anyone to consider any other position in the public service.
* He has not expressed an interest to become the next national Commissioner of SAPS.
SARS trusts this statement will put any further speculation to rest.
