President Thabo Mbeki to address 16 June commemoration

10 June 2008

President Thabo Mbeki will on 16 June 2008 deliver a keynote address at the National Youth Day Commemoration at University of the Western Cape.

The National Youth Day, 16 June 2008, marks the 32nd anniversary of the Soweto uprising of 1976, when we remember and celebrate the efforts of the youth of our country, who waged the struggle for liberation and a better life for all. It is a day that our country honours their collective efforts and sacrifices in the struggle against colonialism and apartheid.

During his 2008 state of the nation address, President Mbeki made a call that all organs of state should dispose of their work in the context of “business unusual”, with a clear commitment to double efforts in advancing the improvement of the lives of young people.
