Media advisory Moleleki Commission

The Minister for Provincial and Local Government, Mr Sydney Mufamadi, is to address the media on the findings of the Commission on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims. This follows an investigation into the status of the 12 existing paramontcies, namely Bakwena ba Mopeli, Batlokoa ba Mota, AmaRharhabe (Amaxhosa), AmaGcaleka (Amaxhosa), Matanzima (AbaThembu), Dalintyebo (AbaThembu), AmaMpondo ase Qaukeni, AmaMpondo ase Nyandeni, Manala-Mbongo (Amandebele), Ndzundza-Mabhoko (AmaNdebele), Bapedi and lastly, Amazulu. The Commission was appointed by President Thabo Mbeki in 2004. It was established in terms of Chapter 6 of the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act (Act No 41 of 2003) with the aim of resolving traditional leadership disputes and claims, restoring the integrity of the institution and promoting good governance within traditional communities.
