President Thabo Mbeki to lead South African delegation to Southern African Development Community (SADC) International Conference on Poverty and Development, Mauritius

Pretoria: South African President Thabo Mbeki, supported by the Deputy Minister of Social development, Jean Swanson-Jacobs, will on Sunday, 20 April 2008, lead the South African Government delegation to the SADC Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government meeting in Mauritius.
The SADC Summit on Poverty and Development is convened under the theme, "Regional Economic Integration: A Strategy for Poverty Eradication towards Sustainable Development". President Thabo Mbeki will thus join other SADC Heads of State and Governments in reviewing poverty and development strategies in SADC within the context of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Programme of the region aimed at pushing back the frontiers of poverty and under-development in the region.
To enhance these deliberations, President Mbeki will chair a panel discussion on "Tackling the Skills, Innovation and Technological Gaps Required for Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction in the SADC Region".
President Mbeki will return to South Africa later on Sunday.
