Minister for Public Service and Administration, Ms Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi Conducts Imbizo in Free State Province

Minister for Public Service and Administration Ms Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi paid an unannounced site visit to Thabong Community Centre to witness pension payouts and engage with recipients on issues of service delivery. Minister for Public Service and Administration Ms Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi held an Imbizo in Matjhabeng Local Municipality (Welkom) in Free State province earlier today.

Imbizo is an interactive programme that enables the people to interact directly with the President, National Ministers, Premiers, Provincial MECs, Mayors and local councillors. Government is hosting Imbizo Week from 07 to 13 April. Imbizo has become a vital platform for mobilising all sectors of society, including the communities, to partner with government to speed up change and accelerate service delivery.

Minister Fraser-Moleketi conducted unannounced site visits on various locations including South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA), Thabong Community Centre where pension payouts where being conducted, the local South African Police Station and Bongani Regional Hospital. During the site visits, Minister had the opportunity to engage with staff and the clientele of those service centres.

The programme later moved to Zuka Baloyi Stadium where more than 3 000 citizens gathered to voice their concerns to leadership. Minister Fraser-Moleketi participated in the Letsema where she worked with employees from SASSA, the Home Affairs and Labour departments in the delivery of services to citizens at the Imbizo. Also present at the Imbizo where several Free State MECs including Education, Casalis Mokitlane and Public Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Dukwane.

Minister Fraser-Moleketi said, "Through Imbizo government listens, hears, and understands what the people want. In Matjhabeng Local Municipality we have heard the voice of the people and are committed to improving service delivery."

The focal theme for Imbizo is all hands on deck for faster development giving life to President Mbeki's vision of Business Unusual. "This involves government leaders reporting, launching and communicating progress made towards the speedy, efficient and effective implementation of development projects aimed at changing people's lives for the better," added Minister Fraser-Moleketi.
