Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of South Africa and the Government of the Republic Of Congo Brazzaville on Defence Co-operation

The Minister of Defence of Congo Brazzaville, the Honourable Mr Jacques Yvon Ndolou, will on Monday, 14 April 2008, meet with his South African counterpart, the Honourable Minister Mosiuoa Lekota to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Defence co-operation between the two countries.
This agreement paves the way for developing and formulating procedures for military co-operation between the respective armed forces. South Africa and Congo Brazzaville will co-operate in the field of Defence through pursuance of the following goals:
* Promoting the training of military personnel through exchange of training instructors and observers.
* Co-operation in the exchange of knowledge and training in the field of United Nations and African Union Peacekeeping Operations.
* Mutual visits by the respective Ministers of Defence, Chiefs of the Armed Forces and their Chiefs of Arms of Service as well as other officials of the respective defence establishments.
* Co-operation in the field of military medical services and technical co-operation, and the exchange of military personnel at all levels to enhance sporting and cultural links between the armed forces.
