Updated programme of events during the imbizo week

* Minister of Public Enterprises, Alec Erwin is visiting Anglo Platinum mines. He will also meet with managers, mining union representatives and government representatives in the Province. The minister will be briefed on how the electricity shortage in the country has affected production in these mines. Union representatives will also have an opportunity to discuss with the minister their concerns of possible job cuts in mines due to the current electricity crises.

* Minister of Communications, Dr Ivy Matsepe-Cassaburri will deliver broadcasting services in the Western Cape, Central Karoo.  This is a partnership project between the Department of Communications, SABC and Sentech.  This project is as a result of the previous visit by the Minister to the area in 2007, where members of the community expressed concern that they do not have access to Some SABC television channels.  A population of 10 512 will benefit from this project.

* Ministers of Education and Home Affairs, Ms Naledi Pandor and Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula will interact with the community of Enyandeni Great Place in the Eastern Cape as part of the Imbizo week.  They will be joined by the Eastern Cape MEC, and the King of the Pondos.

* Minister of Education, Ms Naledi Pandor will be the guest of honour at the launch of Kha Ri Gude (Let us learn in Tshivenda) literacy programme in the Eastern Cape.  The Kha Ri Gude programme is aimed at assisting adults who cannot read or write to become literate.

* Ministers of Minerals and Energy and Water Affairs and Forestry Ms Buyelwa Sonjica and Ms Lindiwe Hendricks will hold an information session on water and electricity in KwaZulu Natal.

* Minister in the Office of the President, Dr Essop Pahad will visit the community of Makhuduthamaga village in Sekhukhune. He will give feedback on progress made by government in addressing their concerns as raised during a visit by President Thabo Mbeki in 2005.

He will also visit Dilokong Protective Workshop for the Disabled in Moroke village.  The key function of this project is to promote income generation for the disabled.  The Office of the President secured R70 000 from the Danish Government to train project members in business management skills, purchase of raw material, and develop marketing material for the project. Members of this project are trained in gardening, shoe repair , sewing and knitting.  The centre also runs ABET classes for disabled people. The project has a total of 30 beneficiaries aged between 26 and 64.
