Ministers of Education and Home Affairs to visit the Nyandeni Great Place in Libode (O.R Tambo District and Libode Local Municipality) as part of the Government’s Imbizo focus Week

The Ministers of Education and Home Affairs, Ms Naledi Pandor and Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, respectively, will on Friday, 11 April 2008, spend the entire day interacting with the community of Nyandeni Great Place in Libode (OR Tambo District and Libode Local Municipality) as part of the Government’s Imbizo Focus Week (7 to 13 April 2008).

The two ministers will be joined by the provincial MECs, the mayors and the King of the Pondos, Chief Bongolethu Ndamase.

On Saturday, 12 April 2008, at 10h00, Minister Pandor will be the guest of honour at the launch of the first classes of Kha RI Gude (the Government’s mass literacy Programme) at Tombo TRC Office at Tombo in Eastern Cape.

The Kha RI Gude Mass Literacy Campaign, launched by the Minister of Education, Mrs Naledi Pandor, is intended to enable 4,7 million adults to become literate between 14 April and the end of 2012. Kha ri Gude (Tshivenda for ‘let us learn’) invites adults who missed out on their schooling, and who cannot read or write, to join one of about 20 000 literacy classes that will be held all over South Africa, starting on 14 April.
