Talent shines at the Puisano live Jazz performances
28 March 2008
The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, in partnership with the West Rand District Municipality, will host the last regional showcase of the Puisano Roving Jazz Programme on Saturday, 29 March 2008 at the 649 Pub in Mohlakeng.
Puisano Jazz programme is aimed at promoting live jazz performances in communities and to develop a culture of jazz appreciation as an art form in townships.
Gauteng is known as the home of jazz where musicians live and embrace their art.
The event will see upcoming jazz stars selected from the auditions held last year November where the best live acts were chosen to showcase their talent. MEC Barbara Creecy will deliver a keynote address.
"Puisano Jazz Programme is also aimed at promoting and supporting the development of this genre in terms of growing a culture of live jazz performances, unearthing new talent and exposing them to the industry," said Gauteng MEC for Sports Arts Culture and Recreation, Barbara Creecy.
Performance lines up include Taiwa Jazz Band, Ninth Avenue Jazz Band, Nakatakata Afro Jazz Band, and Special Request Jazz Band.
