Minister Lulu Xingwana unveils settlement support strategy for land reform beneficiaries
7 February 2008
The Ministry for Agriculture and Land Affairs, in collaboration with the Belgian Embassy in South Africa, will launch the Settlement and Implementation Support (SIS) Strategy for land reform beneficiaries on 18 February in Pretoria.
The event, scheduled to start at 09h00 at the Sheraton Hotel, will be officiated by the Minister for Agriculture and Land Affairs, Honourable Lulu Xingwana. With the financial and technical support from the Belgian government, the Ministry developed a settlement support strategy aimed at providing comprehensive, integrated and sustainable settlement support to beneficiaries of the land reform programme in South Africa.
A two-year process which involved extensive consultation with internal and external stakeholders including land reform experts, researchers as well as consultants towards the development of the settlement support strategy was finalised in July 2007. The process culminated in the publication of the book: 'Settlement and Implementation Support (SIS) Strategy for Land and Agrarian Reform in South Africa (2007).'
The SIS strategy was developed as a response to the mounting challenge of lack of the necessary skills and access to resources on the part of the beneficiaries of the land reform programme. The successful implementation of the SIS will make a huge contribution towards the sustainability of the land reform projects.
