The fifth African Mining Partnership (AMP) meeting will be held at the Cape Sun, Cape Town from 31 January to 2 February 2008.

The AMP was established in 2004 to champion the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) mining and minerals initiatives by:
* harmonising the mining and minerals legislative framework in Africa; and
* optimising the value of mining for the benefit of all
The officials meeting from 31 January to 1 February 2008 will report back on progress that has been made in respect of AMP specific projects, ranging from beneficiation through small-scale mining environment, sustainable development, human resource development, promotion of foreign investment and indigenous participation in mining ventures.
A ministerial meeting will be held on 2 February 2008 at which Minerals and Energy Minister Ms Buyelwa Sonjica will deliver a welcome address, followed by an opening speech by Ghana’s Minister of Land, Forestry and Mines Ms Ester O Dappah.
There will be a press conference after the approval and adoption of the final communiqué of the meeting on 2 February 2008. The press conference will start at 14H00 in the same venue (Cape Sun, Cape Town).
The theme for this year’s meeting is "Optimising Africa’s Minerals Potential for Peace and Prosperity".
