Social Grants Anti-Fraud Campaign focuses on Kwazulu-Natal
29 November 2007
Minister of Social Development, Zola Skweyiya and the MEC for Social Development in KwaZulu-Natal, Meshack Radebe, are to take the campaign against fraud and corruption in the social grants system to kwaHlabisa in northern KwaZulu-Natal on 4 December.
This comes as an official was found to have deliberately destroyed hundreds of food vouchers meant for destitute children in the area.
The area has been affected by fraud in the distribution of social assistance, especially social relief of distress, known commonly as food parcels. The visit will also focus on promoting services to orphans and vulnerable children, including those made vulnerable due to HIV and AIDS. The outreach programme will also promote the Children's Amendment Bill provisions, including Early Childhood Development. Mobile trucks from Home Affairs and South African Social Security Agency will be on hand for grant and civic documents registrations.
Media is invited to cover the event.
