Gauteng to launch its 30th Thusong Service Centre
30 October 2007
The Gauteng Provincial Government is to continue strengthening service delivery in communities with the opening of Gauteng's 30th Thusong Service Centre in Impumelelo, Devon.
The Impumelelo Thusong Service Centre launch is in line with Premier Mbhazima Shilowa's commitment to have 40 Thusong Service Centres, formerly known as MPCCs, in Gauteng by 2009.
The local council mayoral committee, ward councillors and officials from the provincial and local government will be present.
Impumelelo is a rural area in the Lesedi Local Municipality. Lesedi spans an area which is largely rural, with two towns situated within its border, namely Heidelberg in the western part, and Devon on its eastern border, approximately 35 km from Nigel.
The centre is in line with government's commitment to bringing services closer to people where they live. The Thusong Service Centres gives communities one-stop access to government information and services to improve their lives.
Services from non-governmental organisations, parastatals and business are also offered. Instead of having to travel to many different offices, residents can go to one place to have most of their needs met.
Thusong Service Centres represent a dynamic partnership between government and the people to build a better life.
