25 October 2007
Rural communities in Mpumalanga are to interact with the Department of Local Government and Housing during the Imbizo Focus Week. Department MEC Candith Mashego-Dlamini will officially open government low cost houses of a number of beneficiaries over the weekend in the Mbombela Local Municipality. The activities form part of the department's outreach to communities. MEC Mashego-Dlamini is expected to open houses at Msogwaba, Nkomeni, Bhuga and Khumbula villages.
The MEC and Mbombela Executive Mayor, Justice Nsibande will also be engaged in a walk about and a door-to-door campaign in interacting with the families at these areas. Some of the beneficiaries are pensioners, orphans, disabled and youths. The various home owners benefited from the department's Contractor Based on Rural Subsidy Programme (CBRS). This programme involves the participation of a contactor, councillors and beneficiaries. The beneficiaries should earn less than R1 500 per month and have dependants.
The MEC will later address the Imbizo at the Nsikazi Stadium where various stakeholders will take part. The department is expected to respond to challenges faced by government on service delivery at an Imbizo scheduled as follows:
Venue: Nsikazi Stadium
Date: 27 October 2007
Time: 10h00
Members of the media are invited to join MEC Mashego-Dlamini and Executive Mayor Nsibande when doing the hand over and walk about at Msogwaba at 08h00.
