Gauteng to launch its 28th Thusong Service Centre
23 October 2007
The Gauteng Provincial Government is to continue strengthening service delivery in communities with the opening of Gauteng's 28 th Thusong Service Centre in Onverwacht, Cullinan. The Onverwacht Thusong Services Centre launch is in line with Premier Mbhazima Shilowa's commitment to have 40 Thusong Service Centres, formerly known as Multi Purpose Community Centres (MPCCs), in Gauteng by 2009.
Since 2000, local, provincial and national government together with other stakeholders has established 27 Centres in Gauteng. The Onverwacht Thusong Service Centre will bring the total to 28. The Gauteng MEC for Agriculture, Conservation and Environment, Khabisi Mosunkutu, the local council mayoral committee, ward councillors and officials from the provincial and local government will be present.
Onverwacht is a rural area in the Metsweding District Municipality. The community benefits from cultural tourism and there is vast land for farming. The centre is in line with government's commitment to bringing services closer to the people. The Thusong Service Centres gives communities one-stop access to government information and services to improve their lives. Services from non-governmental organisations, parastatals and business are also offered. Instead of having to travel to many different offices, residents can go to one place to have most of their needs met.
Thusong Service Centres therefore represent a dynamic partnership between government and the people to build a better life.
