9 October 2007
The Minister for Agriculture and Land Affairs Lulu Xingwana invites members of the media to two events, being the World Rural Women's Day celebration in Ga-Sekororo in Limpopo, on 15 October. The minister will then proceed to Mpumalanga at the Ebutsini Tribal Authority for the World Food Day celebration on 16 October. At the International Rural Women's Day the Minister will address over three thousand rural women from all over the country. The event will be jointly celebrated with the Limpopo World Food Day.
The Minister will address communities in Mpumalanga on national World Food Day on 16 October. The day will be celebrated under the theme 'Right to Food: Rural women produce and provide.' The event, whose aim it is to highlight the plight of poverty and food insecurity in South Africa and globally, will see other social cluster departments in Mpumalanga also join the proceedings.
World Food Day will start with a 1 km march to the stadium led by Minister Xingwana, the Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla and the MEC of Agriculture Dina Pule.
