Acting President Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri to address the national Heritage Day celebration in the Free State province
24 September 2007
The Acting President of the Republic of South Africa, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, will today, 24 September 2007, deliver a keynote address at the national Heritage Day celebration to be held at Bloemfontein in the Free State province.
The national Heritage Day celebration is a culmination of the month long programme of activities launched by the Minister of Arts and Culture Pallo Jordan in Cape Town on 8 September 2007.
September marks the annual Heritage Month in South Africa and the 24th of this month was declared a public holiday under the Public Holidays Act of 1994. Heritage Month recognises aspects of South African culture which are both tangible and intangible: creative expression such as music and performances, our historical inheritance, language, the food we eat as well as the popular memory.
The theme for the 2007 Heritage Month is: 'Celebrating Our Poetry.'
