Free State province hosts national Heritage Day celebrations

21 September 2007

September marks the annual Heritage Month in South Africa. 24 September was declared a public holiday under Public Holidays Act, 1994. The Theme for the 2007 Heritage Month is "Celebrating Our Poetry". It resonates with the initiative undertaken by the Department of Arts and Culture to revitalise South African languages and literature.

The month's celebrations will culminate in a national event on 24 September to be held at Botshabelo stadium from 8:30 in the Free State province. It is anticipated that through this month-long programme for Heritage Month, South Africans of all races, cultural backgrounds, languages and creeds will participate and share each other’s cultural heritage, as we collectively build a united nation.
