Visible Policing: Crime Awareness Campaign

The office of the Deputy Minister for Safety and Security Susan Shabangu and South African Police Service (SAPS) (Division Visible Policing and Gauteng province) are hosting an awareness campaign, to educate and inform communities around Gauteng provinces about crime prevention and policing. The main objective of the campaign is to increase community involvement in the fight against crime.

The Division Visible Policing will use these campaigns to increase participation in partnership policing initiatives like the community policing for a, police reservists system and to support the execution of proactive and visible policing in the targeted areas. Service delivery by the SAPS to women and children will be a central theme for the campaign. The Deputy Minister Safety and Security Susan Shabangu and a team of stakeholders from provincial and local government, communities and the SAPS will visit the following identified areas:

Time: 8h00 to 16h00
Venue: Pilditch Stadium: Press briefing for open day and performance by the artists

The campaign will move through the areas, using a bus with entertainers and will stop to engage and entertain communities and hand our information materials. The procession will stop at shopping malls, taxi ranks and police station where the SAPS band and some of the choirs participating in the Polmusca Festival from 20 to 22 September 2007, will perform.

The media and community members are cordially invited to attend the events and raise crime issues pertaining to every identified jurisdiction. For free print advertising, SAPS posters and pamphlets are available on request.
