Three Northern Cape best female law enforcement officers for 2007 announced

The Police Station Commissioner, J Christie of Danielskeil near Kimberley has been awarded the Best Northern Cape Female Law Enforcement Officer of the Year 2007. Captain Christie was awarded the top prize of R10 000 at an award ceremony in De Aar by Provincial Safety and Liaison MEC T Madikane.
The second runner up is Samantha van Coller a constable at the Kimberley station who scooped R5 000 and the third runner up is Lusanda Tshangela who hails from the awards' host town, De Aar.
The competition is part of the province's attempts to celebrate and bestow honour upon women in these male dominated terrains and to celebrate August, which is declared Women's Month.
The Northern Cape is the only province in the country running this competition, since the year 2000.The aim of the competition is to reward excellence in law enforcement and recognise unswerving devotion to duty, outstanding record of service in the traffic and the police fraternities and to the community, commitment to the job (Department) its goals and all sacrifices which are worthy of great praise and emulation by fellow officers (being a role model).
Provincial Safety and Liaison MEC T Madikane announced and honoured the winners at an award-giving ceremony in De Aar on the 29th of August 2007.
The top winner left the award ceremony all smiles to the bank with R10 000, second runner up pocketed R5 000 and the third price was R 3 000. Participants will all receive certificates of acknowledgement.
The long-term goals of the competition is aimed at giving recognition to and encouraging our women in blue to continue to break the glass ceilings in these previously male dominated disciplines.
