Media statement by Premier FB Marshoff on the reshuffle of the Free State Provincial Government Executive Council

7 August 2007

Yesterday, we held a media briefing to make pronouncements about the key priorities for the Provincial Government from now until 2009, following our Extended Executive Council Lekgotla held on 2 to 3 August 2007.From our own assessment, it became clear that whereas we perform exceptionally well in some areas, there are areas that need strengthening and consolidation.

We made it clear that our emphasis is going to be on implementation, accelerated delivery, unblocking the bottlenecks and aligning the budget to priorities. We made announcements about our apex of priorities and that from henceforth our approach is going to be known as business unusual.

In view of these and other considerations, I have decided to rearrange the composition of the Provincial Executive Council as follows:

The MEC for Public Safety and Liaison is henceforth replaced as a member of the Provincial Executive Council.

The full complement of the Executive Council is as follows:

* MEC for Local Government and Housing: MJ Mafereka
* MEC for Public Works Roads and Transport: SJ Mohai
* MEC for Economic, Environmental Affairs and Tourism: NH Masithela
* MEC for Provincial Treasury: PHI Makgoe
* MEC for Health: ST Belot
* MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture: ES Magashule
* MEC for Public Safety and Liaison: ZP Dlungwana
* MEC for Social Development: MA Tsopo
* MEC for Education: MC Mokitlane
* MEC for Agriculture: S Mnumzana

It is my view that the new composition will place us in a much more favourable position to meet the expectations of our people for the accelerated delivery towards a better life for all.
