Celebration of Child Protection Week and International Children's Day

The celebration of national Child Protection Week (CPW) is to take place from Monday, 28 May 2007 to Sunday, 3 June 2007, under the theme "renewing our pledge in a national partnership to end violence against children and tackle child poverty." The national launch of CPW will take the form of a two-day symposium on tackling child poverty, to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Monday, 28 May 2007.

1. National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Budget Vote
As part of the build-up to CPW, Minister Zola Skweyiya will present the departmental budget vote to the National Council of Provinces on Monday, 28 May 2007, to highlight its focus for this financial year which includes the reduction of Child Poverty.

3. International Children's Day
On International Children's Day, Friday, 1 June 2007, the national and Western Cape Department of Social Development will host a community event to highlight partnerships in fighting violence directed at children. The event will also create greater awareness about child protection structures and programmes on a national, provincial regional or district and local level.
