The Imbizo Programme ties well with the theme "Renewing our pledge: A national partnership to build a better life for all." Members of the Executive Council will meet with various stakeholders within the visited municipalities, visit people in their respective residences and meet with community at specified locations.

Imbizo will be held in the following areas:

Date: 12 April 2007
Venue: Southern District (Maqwassie Hills Local Municipality), Makwassie/Lebaleng Stadium
Joint programme with the national Department of Communications represented by the Deputy Minister of Communication, Mr Radhakrishna Padayachie

Date: 15 April 2007
Venue: Central District Municipality (Ditsobotla Local Municipality), Boikhutso Sports Grounds

Venue: Southern District Municipality (Merafong Local Municipality), Wedella Sports Grounds

Note:

Imbizo has been widely acknowledged as an effective forum for enhancing dialogue and interaction between government and people. It provides an opportunity for government to communicate its programme of action and the progress being made. It promotes participation of the public in the programmes to improve their lives.

The April Imbizo will focus on key programmes to improve service provision by local government. Imbizo has underlined the critical role of local government, working with the other spheres, in implementing programmes to improve people's lives and eradicate poverty.

A special effort will be made to build community participation as crucial for effective local government and improved service delivery. This will also help the provincial government to give more focused attention to the challenges faced by local government.
