Government leaders to interact with the public during Imbizo Week
4 April 2007
Government will from 10 to 17 April 2007, embark on Imbizo Week that will see ministers, premiers, deputy ministers, MECs, mayors, municipal managers and councillors visiting and interacting with communities across the country on wide-ranging issues relating to government's Programme of Action (PoA).
The imbizo week will seek to build partnerships for the implementation of the PoA and further strengthen existing partnerships in the fight for development and to ensure safety for all communities.
Imbizo provides a platform for government and communities to engage on local economic development programmes. This unmediated form of communication has proved to be a successful catalyst in ensuring and fortifying the implementation of their municipality plans and other integrated programmes aimed at community upliftment.
The core theme for this Imbizo Week is: 'Renewing Our Pledge - A National Partnership to Build a Better Life for All.'
As part of the week's programme, President Thabo Mbeki, accompanied by senior government representatives will visit the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng, on 14 to 15 April 2007 on a Presidency Imbizo. The two-day visit will include meeting the provincial and local leadership and culminate in a community imbizo at Altrec Stadium in Alexandra.
The Imbizo Week programme is available on the government website: http://www.gov.za.
