Mpumalanga province celebrates the Day of Reconciliation, 16 December 2006, Thulamahashe new stadium, Bushbuckridge municipality

Multitudes are expected to gather at the new Thulamahashe stadium to embrace each other as a united nation, experience unity in diversity and aspirations for a brighter future as an undivided nation and as they experience the festive season that symbolises peace, unity and reconciliation. The event is organised by the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation in conjunction with Bushbuck Ridge Municipality and other stakeholders. The event will be held on Saturday, 16 December 2006, at new Thulamahashe stadium. The day aims at promotion of reconciliation, nation building and unity amongst all South Africans.

“Wars of Resistance” is the theme that has been running for a third year now since 2004; it suggests the promotion of nation building and cultural diversity in the spirit of ubuntu/ batho. It is a day to celebrate the triumph of our present over our past. On this day unity and common patriotism are elements to be emphasised to the people of the province.

The Honourable Premier, TSP Makwetla, will deliver the keynote address. MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation, Nomsa Mtsweni, provincial politicians, community leaders, senior government officials, political and community organisations will be part of this important celebration.

The popular kwaito musician, Brown Dash, will draw the crowds as the main guest artist. Elijah, and the Heavenly Sounds, PMJ Jazz Band, and other semi-professional artists from Mpumalanga province will also showcase their talent. There will be a feast of other diverse cultural indigenous dances and traditional performances. The day will start with the 4,8 km fun run and showcasing of indigenous games. Everybody is invited. The celebration will take place from 07h00 to 17h00. Entrance is free.
