Background

The South African Government has declared 26 - 31 October 2006, as the Imbizo Focus week. The week will see Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Premiers, MECs, Mayors, Municipal Managers, councillors visiting and interacting with communities across the country on wide-ranging issues related to Government’s Programme of Action. The visit will particularly focus on the second economy interventions.

It is important to also note that the events would take place within the broader framework of Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA) where communities will be encouraged to partner with government in ensuring growth in the economy.

The Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa has been deployed in the Mpumalanga province on the 26 – 27 October 2006.

* strengthen partnerships to implement second economy programmes to halve poverty and unemployment by 2014.

09h30 - 10h15: Minister is welcomed by the Premier TSP Makwetla and Executive Mayor of Emakhazeni Municipality Cllr L Mohlala at Machadodorp Council Offices.

10h30 - 12h15: Minister visits Emthonjeni Sports Stadium in Machadodorp and also interacts with all organised sporting codes representative in the area at Emthonjeni Sports Stadium.

12h30 - 13h00: Lunch: Belfast Council Offices
13h15 - 13h45: Minister visits the Sports Hub in Belfast
14h00 – 16h30: Community Outreach at Siyathuthuka Stadium in Belfast led by the Minister, Premier, Executive Mayor and Cllr Radebe
