Mpumalanga to host Football Indaba, Badplaas Aventura, 22 - 23 July 2006

The MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation, Nomsa Mtsweni, will be hosting a Football Indaba on 22 to 23 July 2006 in Badplaas Aventura. Entitled “Road towards 2010 and beyond”, it will focus on the development of a five-year strategic plan for football.

With South Africa having won the right to host the 2010 Soccer World Cup on behalf of FIFA, the time has come for South African Football Association to re-engineer football in the whole country in order to position Bafana Bafana and the soccer administration for successful participation, including winning the soccer world cup.

The Provincial Government and Mpumalanga SAFA saw it fair to convene a Football Indaba to guide football development and to discuss issues affecting football development within the province.

The objectives of the Indaba amongst others will be to enhance participation of both boys and girls, create a platform for talent identification, nurture talent through skills development, explore academies for high performance, produce athletes of professional standard, assist the current restructuring process of football in the province, develop a focused strategy on football development for 2010 and beyond, restructure the South African Football Association in the province, encourage non-racialism and democracy through sport and encourage partnership between SAFA, government and business community.

Therefore each media house is requested to send one representative per media house for the Indaba. Meals and accommodation will be provided.
