Update of Government’s Programme of Action
9 May 2006
Coinciding with the first week of media briefings by government clusters on implementation of the Programme of Action for 2006, the programme published on the government website http://www.gov.za is being updated on the basis of reports by clusters to Cabinet.
The Cabinet finalised the reports at its meeting on 3 May. The updated report on implementation is being published cluster by cluster, in accordance with the schedule of cluster media briefings, which starts on Tuesday, 9 May. The schedule of the week of media briefings is available on the government website.
The Programme of Action for 2006 is based on the decisions of the Cabinet Lekgotla in January and the President’s State of the Nation Address in February. It includes activities from the Programme for 2005, which were not completed during 2005, either because they had longer timeframes or because of delays that are receiving attention in the new programme.
This is the third year of publication of government’s Programme of Action with detailed targets and timeframes. The practice was initiated in May 2004 when the newly elected government set out its programme. The report on implementation is updated in line with the two monthly cycle of reporting by clusters to Cabinet.
By enabling the public to continue to follow progress in implementation of government’s programme in detail, this will promote conditions enabling all of society to work together to build a South Africa in a national effort for faster growth and development.
