Imbizo Focus Week Diary for 7 April 2006

The following National Imbizo Focus Week events will take place tomorrow, 7 April 2006. Further information on the events may be obtained from the contact persons listed for enquiries.
Event – Minister of Correctional Services, Mr Ngconde Balfour and his deputy, Loretta Jacobs, will attend a community Imbizo at the Abaqulusi Municipality accompanied by His Majesty, King Zwelithini and the Mayor of Abaqulusi. The Imbizo will help build partnerships for implementation of government’s mandated Programme of Action (PoA), by bringing national, provincial and local government together in interaction with communities

Event – The Amathole District Municipality will host a community Imbizo to introduce the newly elected council members. The Imbizo is guided by the concept of participatory governance and will give the community a chance to interact with their local leaders in order to familiarise themselves with the local PoA.

Event – The Northern Cape Provincial Government will host a community Imbizo to share ideas on how to join hands to speed up implementation. World Health Day will also be observed.

Event – The Gauteng Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation Department has established several sports hubs across the Province and will tomorrow be visiting the Katlehong and Thembisa hubs as part of the Imbizo Focus Week to see how the communities are using these facilities.

Event – Another MPCC will be launched in Duduza, Gauteng. MPCC have been identified as the primary vehicle for the implementation of development communication and information programmes as they can serve as a base from which a wide range of services and products can reach communities. The aim is for communities to access such services with ease and engage in government programmes for their own empowerment.

Event – Community Imbizo to assess housing needs and progress in rural housing and the paving of roads in the Maluti A Phofung Municipality as part of government’s efforts to improve the lives of the people.
