North West Department of Health kick-start its Health Month - Letsema

31 March 2006

The North West Department of Health will on Tuesday, 4 April 2006, kick-start in earnest the Health Month's comprehensive programme, which will be focusing mainly on celebrating the dignity and value of working together for health through the cleanliness of our health facilities.

April has been declared Health Month and has been commemorated annually since 1950. It is during this month that a specific health theme is chosen as a priority area of concern for the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The programme will start with the cleaning of Provincial Health Office premises known as Tirelo Building next to South African Broadcasting Corporation, during which the MEC for Health, the Head of the Department, the Department's executive management and all head office staff members, will roll-up their sleeves and work together for health.

"The Department wants to ensure that the MEC for Health leads by example in ensuring that our vision and mission become practical. We also want to preach this ’Cleanliness is healthy living’ message amongst our colleagues, that we believe has to be active at our offices as well," explained the Head of the Department, Mr Obakeng Mongale.

MEC Nomonde Rasmeni will on the day give out the detailed programme for Health Month. Potjie-kos will be served at 13h00 after the gardening and cleaning is completed.

Members of the media are invited to be part of the activity, and are requested to arrive at 08h30, to get the details of the Health Month programme, as will be presented by MEC Nomonde Rasmeni.
