First ever environmental enforcement conference

Media is invited to the first ever Environmental Enforcement Conference, which will be hosted by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism in Durban from 22 to 23 February 2006.
Role players from the various spheres of government as well as the international arena will converge under the theme of Stepping Up Environmental Enforcement: New Powers, Tools and Networks.
The conference aims to provide a platform for participants to showcase success stories, obstacles and innovations in environmental enforcement. It is envisaged that the gathering will provide an opportunity for various enforcement agencies to enhance relationships.
Discussions will be led by Pam Yako, Director-General at the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism and the Enforcement Work Programme with the Environmental Agency of England and Wales will be launched during the conference. The Deputy Minister, Rejoice Mabudafhasi will also announce the recipient of the National Prosecutor’s Award.
