Minister Dlamini Zuma to depart for Commonwealth meeting ahead of President Mbeki, Valetta, Malta
20 November 2005
Tshwane – South African Foreign Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, will on Tuesday, 22 November 2005, depart for Valetta, Malta ahead of President Thabo Mbeki, for the Commonwealth Heads of State and Government Summit (CHOGM) scheduled from Friday to Sunday, 25 - 27 November 2005.
Minister Dlamini Zuma will lead the South African delegation to the CHOGM meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs scheduled from Wednesday to Thursday, 23 - 24 November 2005. CHOGM 2005 will be held under the banner of "Networking the Commonwealth for Development." The South African delegation will participate in CHOGM 2005 with the objective of promoting the achievement of the Millennium Developments Goals (MDGs) and the African Agenda.
In this regard, the CHOGM is unique in that member countries range from micro-states in Polynesia to members of the G8, the smallest and poorest to the richest and most populous, straddling the North-South divide. The South African delegation is therefore in a position to strategically popularise the African agenda to a cross section of the global community.
