Statement on the update of Government’s Programme of Action

28 October 2005

Coinciding with the fourth series of media briefings by government clusters on implementation of the Programme of Action for 2005, the programme published on the government website http://www.gov.za is being updated on the basis of reports by clusters to Cabinet. This round of reporting is the last for 2005.

The Cabinet finalised the reports at its meeting on 31 August. The updated report on implementation is being published cluster by cluster, in accordance with the schedule of cluster media briefings, which starts on Sunday, 30 October, and will be completed on Thursday, 3 November.

The Programme of Action for 2005 is based on the decisions of the Cabinet Lekgotla in January and the President’s State of the Nation Address in February. It includes activities from the Programme for 2004, which were not completed during 2004, either because they had longer timeframes or because of delays that are receiving attention in the new programme.

The publication of government’s Programme of Action was initiated in May 2004 when the newly elected government set out its programme. The report on implementation is updated in line with the two-monthly cycle of reporting by clusters to Cabinet.

This will allow the public to continue to follow progress in implementation of government’s programme. By keeping the public informed in detail of progress in implementation, this will promote conditions enabling all of society to work together to build a South Africa that truly belongs to all.
