Sport, Arts and Culture Imbizo Focus Week
30 September 2005
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in the Northern Cape will commence with an Imbizo Focus Week Programme on Monday, 3 October 2005, in Calvinia. A series of activities have been planned for the Imbizo Focus Week where MEC Kagisho David Molusi will meet with the public at events to be held throughout the Province, some of which (events) will be honoured by the national Minister of Arts and Culture, Dr Pallo Jordan.
Imbizo is a forum for enhancing dialogue and interaction between government and the people. The Imbizo Focus Week promotes participation of the public in the programmes to improve their lives.
MEC KD Molusi will meet the communities of Calvinia, Kammieskroon and Springbok from 3 - 5 October, and will be joined by Minister Pallo Jordan on 5 October 2005 for Izimbizo in Nababeep, Upington, Andriesvale and Kimberley. The week-long programme will include the opening of a library in Calvinia, handing over of sport equipment and signing of a memorandum of understanding for the Mass Participation Programme in Calvinia, Springbok and Nababeep. The programme will also include Government’s intention to create awareness and urge participation in the name restitution process by the Geographical Place Names Committee.
MEC KD Molusi urges the public in the above-mentioned towns to heed Government’s call and attend the Izimbizo intended for them. MEC Molusi says this is an opportunity for the public to highlight their concerns, grievances and advice government on its work.
“Imbizo provides an opportunity for government to communicate its action programme and the progress being made directly to the people. Interaction through Imbizo highlights particular problems needing attention, blockages in implementation of policy, or policy areas that may need review, and it draws public input into how best to tackle challenges,” MEC Molusi stated.
