Imbizo Focus Week takes government to the people of Gauteng

The national Imbizo Focus Week that runs from the 1 to 9 October 2005 will be held under the banner of “Integrated governance for local delivery”.
A variety of events are planned for Gauteng, involving the Premier, Ministers, MECs and Mayors.
The Izimbizo are an expression of government’s commitment to deepen democracy by taking government to the people and interacting directly with communities. The focus week will also highlight service delivery and implementation of government’s programme of action at a local level.
The Imbizo Focus Week activities will also include Ministerial Municipal Imbizo in Johannesburg and Merafong to showcase the work being done as part of Project Consolidate to improve service delivery.
Minister of Provincial and Local Government, Sydney Mufamadi, and Gauteng MEC for Local Government, Qedani Mahlangu, will be in attendance at the City of Joburg, where issues such as the billing system, tarring of roads and water projects are expected to be discussed. Minister of Science and Technology, Mosibudi Mangena, and Deputy Minister of Sport and Recreation, Gert Oosthuizen, will attend the Merafong Local Municipality Imbizo, where they are expected to launch a local housing project.
The Municipal Imbizo arise from a Cabinet decision to involve the President, Deputy President, Ministers and Deputy Ministers, Premiers and MECs as well as mayors and councillors in a new phase of Imbizo to strengthen local government systems and delivery.

Gauteng Agriculture, Conservation and Environment MEC Khabisi Mosunkutu visits Midvaal to interact with stakeholders and meet with the community in the area as part of the national Imbizo Focus Week aimed at facilitating direct communication between government and the people. .
