National Imbizo focus week kicks off on 1 October
30 September 2005
The 2005 national Imbizo Focus Week will kick off on 1 October running until 9 October as part of government’s initiatives towards integrated governance for effective service delivery. It is aimed at assessing progress made through the Municipal Imbizo Programme interventions as well as continuing to address challenges that have been highlighted through the programme.
A Municipal Imbizo is an intensive and interactive community based meeting of the three spheres of Government targeted at the 136 municipalities being supported through Project Consolidate (a hands-on local government support and engagement programme designed to enhance municipal capacity to deliver services and improve performance).
As part of its programme to strengthen the municipalities, government has deployed various ministers who will conduct municipal Izimbizo to get to listen to development within municipalities from councillors and the communities. During the Imbizo Focus Week, leaders from all spheres of government will visit various Project Consolidate municipalities around the country with the aim of finding ways to help them improve performance. The schedule of these visits is available at http://www.gov.za.
Media interested in conducting interviews with any of the ministers and deputy ministers who will be visiting municipalities during the Focus Week can contact their respective ministerial liaison officers.
