Title deeds handover celebration to Thaba Nchu Community

10 May 2005

The Department of Land Affairs and the Thaba Nchu community cordially invite you to attend a title deeds handover celebration. A title deeds handover celebration has been arranged for the communities that have received land in the Thaba Nchu area. The 20 title deeds will be hand over to the Thaba Nchu community officiated by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs Adv Du Toit.

The Thaba Nchu tenure project was initiated in 1997 at the request of the Thaba Nchu Land Committee. This was a broad-based community organisation with representation of a number of community-based organisations (CBOs) and political organisations. The Traditional Authority (TA) was part of the committee, as well as the two transitional councils in the area.

A project proposal and business plan was then submitted to the Minister of Land Affairs and was approved February 1998. A contractual agreement was signed between the Provincial Government and the Department of Land Affairs.

The Department of Land Affairs provided the land and funding for the planning and registration of the land. The Provincial Government (Department of Local Government and Housing) was the implementers of the project. A project management committee was formed of which several departments and local government were part and this committee met monthly for a period of over two years.

The event will be attended by the MECs, premier, mayors, traditional leaders, non-governmental organisations, government officials and communities around the Thaba Nchu.

The celebration will take place on:
Date: 4 May 2005
Time: 09h00
Venue: Thaba Nchu Stadium
