MEC Mashatile interacts with communities in gauteng
11 April 2004
Gauteng Finance and Economic Affairs MEC Paul Mashatile, and his management team are currently embarking on a series of community outreach programmes and Imbizos around Gauteng. The aim is to raise awareness about government’s services particularly services provided by the Department of Finance and Economic Affairs, and mostly to hear the concerns and issues raised by different communities. The programmes for these Imbizos include the following:
* Walkabouts by the MEC and departmental employees (Directors and Managers of Agencies).
* Meeting with stakeholders such as local business community
* Visiting schools and engaging students on the Provincial Government’s Budget
* Public meetings
“This form of interaction with communities has grown to become a norm for all three spheres of government (national, provincial and local). The aim is to review our mandate as given to us by the people and to give feedback as to what the government has achieved” said MEC Paul Mashatile.
MEC Paul Mashatile will be visiting Freedom Primary School in Freedom Park on 12 April and will address an Imbizo in Protea Glen, Soweto on Wednesday, 13 April.
Last week the MEC visited the Vaal University of Technology and the Mamelodi community in Tshwane where issues such as unemployment and poverty were raised.
