National Imbizo Focus Week - KwaZulu-Natal

7 April 2005

All attention will be focused on KwaZulu-Natal when a delegation from the National Government including the provincial Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal will hold an Imbizo at the Chatsworth Youth Centre in Arena Park on Thursday, 7 April 2005, at 09:00.

This is a joint programme for the Imbizo Focus Week involving the deputy ministers of Education, Communication, Science and Technology. However, the Imbizo visit to KwaZulu-Natal will be undertaken by the Department of Education only.

The purpose of this imbizo is for the government to meet the people and the theme is taken from the Freedom Charter that is: “Building a South Africa that truly belongs to all”. Speakers at the Imbizo will include the national Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Enver Surty, and the MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, Ms Ina Cronje.

The programme will start at the Council Offices in Chatsworth where the national delegation will meet the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education officials. Thereafter they will meet the MEC for Education and the Mayor of the eThekwini Municipal Council. At the Chatsworth Youth Centre the delegation will meet with the Chatsworth councillors. After this meeting the entourage will proceed on a tour to the Meadowlands Secondary School where they will be addressed by the MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, the Deputy Minister of Education and the Deputy Minister of Communication. They will then engage in discussion with the learners, educators, parents and members of the school governing body.

They will return to the Chatsworth Youth Centre where they will meet with the community and have meetings with religious leaders, community leaders, business partners, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community-based organisations (CBOs), representatives from school governing bodies (SGBs) and sports organisations. A press briefing will then take place where your presence as an important stakeholder is needed to pass the message of building a South Africa that truly belongs to all in your esteemed media.
