Minister of Home Affairs launches Lokisa Ditokomane/Lungiza Izingcwadi campaign
5 April 2005
The Minister of Home Affairs, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, will on Thursday (7 April 2005) launch a campaign aimed at correcting errors in documents issued by Home Affairs.
The Lokisa Ditokomane/Lungisa Izingcwadi campaign is aimed at affording South Africans an opportunity to rectify wrong or erroneous details on their documents at no charge.
Members of the public whose identity documents (IDs), passports, birth certificates or marriage certificates have errors such as misspelled names, wrong dates of birth, incorrect photos, persons who have been declared dead while still alive, people sharing the same ID number and any other faulty information in any document, are urged to come forward to rectify such errors.
The launch forms part of the Imbizo Focus Week which takes place from 7 to 13 April 2005, where Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Premiers, MECs and local government representatives discuss service delivery on local level with communities, and listen to their unique problems and constraints.
Imbizo has rapidly grown in popularity and is becoming part of the fabric of our democracy because it helps meet a need for direct interaction between government and people around implementation of government’s programme of action.
Furthermore, as part of the government’s commitment to provide assistance to the Sudanese People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) in Leadership and Capacity Building, the Department of Home Affairs is currently hosting the Interior, Police and Customs component of the delegation.
To this end, the delegation will join Ms Mapisa-Nqakula during the Imbizo in Makhado as part of the practical leg of their training that commenced with theoretical sessions in the University of South Africa (UNISA) last week.
This move will enable the SPLM/A delegation to witness first-hand how interactive governance works in South Africa and how members of communities are afforded an opportunity to interact with high-ranking government officials in an uninterrupted and unmediated manner.
