Statement on publication of government’s Programme of Action for 2005 and update on the programme for 2004
8 March 2005
Government’s new Programme of Action for 2005 has been published on Government Online, http://www.gov.za, together with the final update of the Programme for 2004 as adopted in May 2004.
This will allow the public to continue to follow progress in implementation of the government’s programme. By facilitating transparent governance it will contribute to the conditions enabling all of society to work together to build a South Africa that truly belongs to all.
The Programme of Action for 2005 is based on the decisions of the Cabinet lekgotla in January and the President’s State of the Nation Address on 11 February. It includes activities from the Programme for 2004 which were not completed during 2004, either because they had longer timeframes or because of delays which are receiving attention in the new programme.
As it did last year, The Presidency, working with GCIS, intends to update the information on the implementation of programmes every two months after reports on progress have been submitted by Clusters to Cabinet. In addition as particular time frames are reached, there will be public communication by relevant departments on details of implementation of the programme concerned.
This first edition of the report, released on 8 March 2005, does not record progress during February while the report was being finalised.
Some further details have been added to the Programme of Action for 2004 since its last update on 8 February 2005, for example relating to disbursement of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant, implementation of the Comprehensive HIV and AIDS Plan and progress in apprehending the Top 200 criminals. This final update of the Programme for 2004 will remain permanently available on the web site for reference purposes.
