Gauteng Premier, Mbhazima Shilowa, appoints Trevor Fowler as his political advisor

Gauteng Premier, Mbhazima Shilowa, has named Trevor Fowler as his new political advisor, filling a post that has been vacant since Amos Masondo left to take up the mayorship of Johannesburg Metropolitan Council.

Fowler, who has served the past five-year term as Development Planning and Local Development MEC, assumes duties as Shilowa's political advisor with immediate effect.

Fowler was the first speaker of the provincial legislature after South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994.

He brings with him to this role vast experience he has gained in public service - from the legislature to the Gauteng Executive Council. Fowler also convened a transformation committee to advise the then Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry, Kader Asmal, on restructuring of the department.

Fowler is a professional civil engineer who was involved in public service consultancy to research and education during his professional career.
