The launch of the One Stop Victim Empowerment Centre will take place on Thursday, 25 March 2004 in Upington. The event will start at 11am at the centre (7 Jan de Klerk Street, Oosterville) and the Northern Cape Premier, Manne Dipico, will address the community of Upington and surrounding areas.

The Northern Cape Department Social Services & Population Development in partnership with the United Nations (UN) and the Austrian Government has established an outreached centre for abused women and children.

The main objective is to eradicate violence against women and children. The purpose of this centre is to support government, NGOs and civil society initiatives to improve the safety, socio-economic conditions and welfare of gender based violence in the province. This centre will provide a valuable service to the rural community.

Dignitaries who will be at this launch include the United Nations and the Austrian Government delegation and officials from the National Department of Social Development and the Provincial office of Social Services.
