Premier of the Northern Cape, Manne Dipico, at the occasion of the Mayibuye Multi-Purpose Community Centre
5 March 2004

Programme Director
Distinguished Guests
Ladies and Gentlemen.

We are extremely delighted to mark the commencement of the construction of this Multi-Purpose Community Centre (MPCC).

The construction of this Mayibuye centre is another commitment by government to bring world class and modern facilities closer to our communities. This centre will be instrumental in the development of skills and talents of our community. Indeed it will have a great and positive effect on the progress and development of our community in terms of arts, culture and sports.

This also serves as part of the Galeshewe urban renewal programme. The chief objective is to provide our youth with a healthy social, moral and recreational environment and help them grow as useful members not only of their own but also of the larger community. We do not want them to grow up angry or alienated. We want them to become productive members of the society, who give more than ask.

We recommit ourselves to advance the objectives of our communities. One of the principles of the government is about people's participation. The process that led to the building of this centre reflects that. Together we joined hands to select the location of the centre and to identify the services that were required.

But this centre will succeed only if we protect it, if we guard it, if we secure the equipment to ensure that thieves do not steal it after its completion. We trust that these centres will make a meaningful contribution to improve the quality of life of the people of the region.
