Media Statement by the Ministry of Correctional Services

The Minister of Correctional Services, Mr Ben Skosana, MP, yesterday held a meeting with the leadership of the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) in Cape Town to discuss issues of concern.

The meeting which included the Commissioner, Mr Linda Mti, and senior Departmental officials appreciated the need to hold further meetings to discuss the issue of the Departmental Medical Scheme (Medcor), the payment of overtime as well as the question of the remuneration of new recruits. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 26 February 2004.

In addition, the meeting resolved that new attempts should be put in place to ensure proper management and improvement of relationships between the parties concerned.
