Press Release: Mpumalanga Premier conveys condolences to families of accident
victims
12 February 2004
Mpumalanga Premier, Ndaweni Mahlangu, has learnt with a deep sense of loss and sadness about the gruesome and tragic death of school children of Laerskool Toitskraal and Good Shepherd Schools, who died at an accident scene on 3 February 2004.
On behalf of the Mpumalanga Provincial Government and the people of Mpumalanga, I wish to express our sincerest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured.
You are not alone in your grief and sadness. Like you, our hearts are filled with grief and sadness because of the death of these children.
The accident has robbed us of children we valued, loved and treasured so much. We had hoped that one day they would grow and become responsible adults and leaders who would immensely contribute to the skills base and the economy of this country.
As Premier of Mpumalanga, I wish to re-iterate my call to all road users to exercise caution, observe traffic rules and speed limits and ensure that their cars are road worthy for the safety of all people in the province.
To the education fraternity we pray that God will give you the courage and strength to carry on with the challenge of imparting knowledge and empowering children for the future.
And to the families of the deceased, I know it is hard to accept that your loved ones are no more. Please draw solace from the fact that all people of Mpumalanga share your sorrow.
May the departed souls of the deceased rest in peace.
